ABOUT INDY STEELERS
Champion athletes aren’t just born - they’re trained, molded and tested. Since 2000, the Indy Steelers have been a competitive force in the Indianapolis-area. We hone raw talent to maturity with quality coaching, primal workouts and a true love of the sport. We also instill a strong sense of community into our athletes through a partnership with the Martin Luther King Center and community outreach events.
Athleticism, teamwork, perseverance, sportsmanship, mentoring - those are the hallmarks of the Indy Steelers.
MENTORING
A mentor is someone who sees more talent within you, than you see in yourself, and helps bring it out of you.
TEEN WORK PROGRAM
Through our partnership with the MLK Center, teens spend the summer out in their community, cleaning up Tarkington Park and nearby businesses. It's a way for them to build pride for their community, earn a paycheck and also keep them out of trouble. Each April, there is an application process. Teens must go through an interview and then they are chosen to take part in the program.
COMMUNITY SERVICE
Each year the Indy Steelers participate in a variety of community service activities. Yearly we host a Thanksgiving dinner give-a-away and Christmas dinner give-a-way. We've also done park clean-ups, helped the Mozel Sanders Foundation, helped neighbors with leaf removal and more.
PARTNERSHIP WITH MLK CENTER
Located steps from Tarkington Park, the Martin Luther King Jr. Center offers a variety to programming to many of the Indy Steelers athletes and families. These include: tutoring, summer camps, teen summer work program, food pantry, holiday assistance, instruction in the Best Buy Teen Center and more.
